I am a proud supporter of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and have been on the Board of Directors, most currently the vice-chair, for Child Advocacy Services, SEGA, Inc. (CASA Ogeechee) since 2010. As a former child welfare worker and current university professor, I can tell you this is a vital program for our community. The mission of CASA is to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts. We promote and support quality volunteer representation for children to provide each child a safe, permanent, nurturing home. In 2016, CASA Ogeechee became Child Advocacy Services SEGA, Inc. to reflect the additional services we provide to foster children and their families. We now have two Visitation Centers in which children have regular supervised visits in a homelike environment with their parents who are actively seeking reunification.
